Synopsis Horizons 2000+: Career Studies aims to help students plan for their futures after secondary school. The student text is accompanied by a comprehensive teacher's resource that clearly outlines the areas for student knowledge and skill development. Teaching strategies include brainstorming, cartoon analysis, case studies, profiles and "in the news" items, teamwork, interviewing, journals, portfolios, various visual displays, role playing, and surveying. The teacher's resource also includes assessment, evaluation, and rubrics, as well as a section outlining recommended web sites. Teaching suggestions are organized to correspond chapter-by-chapter to the student text and are supported with a set of blackline masters. The student text is well organized and leads students from discovering who they are, to what they want, and how to get there. Canadian profiles (e.g., Jim Carey, Donovan Bailey) provide interest. One chapter briefly discusses money management. This resource was developed to meet the Ontario curriculum and therefore discusses the Diploma requirements for Ontario. Supplementary information would be needed for BC students. Horizons 2000+ almost identically parallels the previous edition, Expanding Your Horizons. Much of the content has been duplicated; however, there are new and expanded sections. Horizons 2000+ has a new section on youth apprenticeships and an expanded section on developing a portfolio and plan. It must be noted that this portfolio development does not entirely parallel the Ministry's Graduation Portfolio Assessment.
