Margaret traveled with her father to Aklavik. She was mesmerized by
what she saw—strange dark-cloaked nuns and pale-skinned priests who
had journeyed from far-off lands. Margaret knew they held the key to
the greatest of the outsiders'mysteries—reading. Margaret begs her
father to let her go to the outsiders' school. She soon encounters the
Raven—a nun. The nun disapproves of Margaret. Margaret is the
laughingstock of the school. Now she must face her tormentors.
