The orange shirt story (38079)
Physical Illustrated
Collection Professional Library
Synopsis When Phyllis Webstad turned six, she went to the residential school for the first time. On her first day at school, she wore a shiny orange shirt that her Granny had bought for her, but when she got to the school, it was taken away and never returned. This is the true story of Phyllis and her orange shirt. It is also the story of the Orange Shirt Day, an important day of remembrance for all Canadians. This picture book is based on a true story about a young First Nations girl -the author - who was sent to a Residential School. "The Orange shirt story" brings a terrible part of Canada's history to light, in a way that children can learn from and relate to. Notes about the author, Orange Shirt Day, a story of the Secwepemc People, and information about St. Joseph's Residential School can be found at the end of the story.
